A research project funded by The Horse Trust has found that the majority of horses that undergo surgery have an abnormal heart rhythm afterwards.

The project was led by Ruth Morgan, who is currently working as The Horse Trust's Senior Clinical Scholar in Equine Internal Medicine at the University of Liverpool. Her research is the first to report the prevalence of arrhythmias in horses following general anaesthesia and surgery. Add a comment

Four brave police horses from the Greater Manchester Police are retiring to The Horse Trust's sanctuary in Buckinghamshire next week.

The four horses have notched up nearly 50 years service between them and have been involved in a wide range of police duties, including policing public order situations, crowd control at football matches and city centre patrols.

30 local authority inspectors from across England recently attended The Horse Trust's two day Equine Welfare Assessment and Handling Course.

The two-day course took place at Bransby Home of Rest for Horses' centres in Leominster on 13th and 14th October 2011 and in Lincoln on 19th and 20th October 2011. Welsh local authorities attended the course in 2010 and 2011 and this is the first time it had been made available to English authorities.
